Motto: "The old centuries had, and have powers of their own which mere modernity cannot kill"
- Count Dracula -

Bram Stoker wrote, in 1897, his terrifying story about Count Dracula. More than a century after, there are still researchers going on, studies made and films produced, all trying to clear the mystery: was there or wasn't there a Transylvanian vampire? How many of these fabulous stories represent the legend and how many, the truth? The Dracula was the 15th century ruler Vlad Tepes (1431-1476), often called Vlad the Impaler, whom Stoker's count is loosely based.

The real Dracula - the name is derived from the Romanian word for devil or dragon - gained notoriety for the way he impaled his enemies on sharp stakes. Despite the gruesome form of capital punishment, Vlad is widely revered by Romanians for standing up to the expanding Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman historians nicknamed him Vlad Tepes, as he came to be known in Romanian historiography, but he used to sign with his father's name, Dracul. Transylvania ... the word alone carries with it magic and mystery. Nestled in this beautiful mountainous region in western Romania lays the Castle Dracula, build on the edge of the Borgo Pass. It lures guests worldwide who wish to partake in the legend that has survived the centuries; the legend that so many people wish to experience! Enjoy enchanting evenings with a masked ball, a witch trial show and midnight visit to cemeteries (only for tougher souls). And, if you live beyond the journey, later on you will realize that you have lived a great adventure of the spirit at the end of which you are richer, happier and more humane.
